With a spotlight on inspiring celebrities who proudly embrace being drug-free, this program takes a fun yet honest dive into the consequences faced by those who’ve chosen unhealthy coping methods.  Like all Shaun Derik experiences, expect live music, plenty of movement, and tons of audience participation—keeping students engaged, entertained, and empowered from start to finish!

At a time when young people are the most malleable, Above & Beyond excites and equips students with the tools necessary to live above the influences of others and beyond their current circumstances.

Hosted by humorist, storyteller, and musician Shaun Derik, along with stand-up comedian, author, and poet Javier Sanchez, A&B delivers a double dose of motivation, moving its listeners from inspiration to action. 

Sanchez’s background is in prevention and community organizing, while Derik’s expertise lies in art and engagement strategy. Together, they bring an undeniable stage presence that captivates students across grade levels.

Middle and high school students attending A&B will understand the benefits of positive choices, learn the power of their own voices, and take actionable steps toward achieving their personal and academic goals.

Keynotes feature live music, movement, spoken word poetry, stand-up comedy, and motivational storytelling, while youth and adult workshops offer interactive games, constructive dialogue, and action planning.

Above & Beyond aims to create a space where students, staff members, and service providers feel safe, valued, and essential, fostering a culture of connection, community, and care for others.
